We Finally Hit The Road
After packing our bags we frittered away most of the day. We didn't want to leave too early and have nothing to do in some tiny hotel room in the boonies. So we walked in to town with plans of picking up one last item -- sun screen -- but our minds were already on the trip and we forgot to buy some. We went back home and took care of some last minute chores, watched some tv and debated about where to go for dinner. We settled on Cheung Won. I'd heard they serve some very good food buffet style. The report was right on. The food was excellent. And so many varieties of dishes to choose from. But it ain't cheap at £10.95 ($20) per person not including drinks. It was 7 p.m. before we hit the road. Our plan was to stop at a Travelodge outside of Cambridge. We figured it was halfway to Harwich. It was an easy-peasy ride to our hotel. The Saturday night traffic was light and the route was clearly marked. The Travelodge receptionist is friendly and solicitous, offering us fresh milk and tea whenever we want. The room is neat and clean but pretty bare bones. The only toiletry amenity they give us is a naked bar of soap and it is kinda stinky. We didn't get a washcloth. Or a bathmat. The bed is extremely soft and the pillows skimpy. Let's hope our accommodations on board will be better than this.
